Peter does Stockholm

So, we’re going back to the polls? It has been far too many years! I wish I’d be in Canada, harassing each and every one to get the vote out. Regardless if people vote Bloc, Liberals or NDP, to get people to vote is already a victory in itself. 85% of Canadians say that they are not interested in politics, I feel that it is a huge problem. That gives all the liberty to the Torries to pass their bills, with a little help from the sometimes-toothless opposition parties.

It is time for a change! Let’s put Canada back on track, forget the Neo-Liberal rhetoric on the benefits of lower taxes and smaller government, that is simply some old Tatcherism, Reagonomics and the likes. I am simply tired of seeing how much floor those talks get, as if it was the only way to prosperity. We surely need a good economy, but slashing social programs will prove itself to be very costly in the not-so long-run. Inequality, education, strong institutions and opportunities are equally important, not some mere considerations for when « the budget will be balanced ». And I am not even mentioning the bully attitude of the government when it comes to crime and the military, it is simply not what we stand for.

So little Peter came over from Istanbul for a week-end. The spring is already there, snow has been melting, the days are longer and everything is just merrier. Nice hang-outs in the city, Modernamuseet and indeed, loads of beer.

I will be starting to teach again tomorrow, looking forward!
